Dear Family and friends,
Well it has been a great last few days.
On Wednesday after the temple, and emailing and stuff we went to go to
meet Takahashi and ended up being able to have a really good lesson
with him. He has heard all of the lessons now, and has been to church
once. He has a really solid foundation, and I can't wait for him to
accept a baptismal date. We really are focusing on prayer and on the
Book of Mormon. I actually bought a small book of mormon after the
temple last week, and so now I have gotten so excited about really
using the Book of Mormon as our greatest tool in teaching. It is so
essential for investigators to learn from the Book of Mormon. The Book
of Mormon really does provide the answers to the questions that
investigators have, and if we always help them to go to the Book of
Mormon, and don't just give them the answers that we have for them,
then they learn to rely on the Book of Mormon, find out whether or not
the book is really true, and then when they receive that answer, they
can't not believe it all. The method of conversion is so simple, and
so beautiful.
Then after being with him we went to the yokoishi family and got to
their house, it is completely dark, we go up and ping and then they
don't answer but it looks like they're there. We ping again, and then
kind of try to see through the front window, but can only barely see a
hand of someone. I called yokoishi papa and he said that the sister
missionaries were there in the genkan. We were pretty sure that there
was no one in the genkan, so we just kind of decide to give up and
leave, and as we start leaving we see the bikes of the sisters down
the street a little ways, so we go down to check it out, and all of a
sudden we see that it is the yokoishi house! It, in the dark literally
looked the exact same as the house two houses down. Haha so we had
that awkward moment and then were able to meet them all and follow up
with them.
Then on Friday we left English class in the middle and went to follow
up with yokoishi papa again, because we couldn't meet him on Saturday
this week because of his work. We were able to meet just him and
talked to him about the Book of Mormon and prayer, and about obeying
the word of wisdom. He said that sometime he kind of wants to drink,
but then he just thinks about the Book of Mormon, and said, "if I
didn't have the Book of Mormon then I would probably drink, but I have
the Book of Mormon and so it helps me to not drink in the end." Such
an awesome thing. He also is working hard on English and asked me on
the phone last week if this sentence was correct, "Jesus Christ turned
out to be true." I told him that Jesus Christ turned out to be real is
better, and then he said this sentence to us on Friday, "The Book of
Mormon turned out to be real." Haha and so I told him that in that
case "true" is better! Haha poor guy. English is sometimes a real
pain. But it's okay because Japanese is too. ;)
We have found some new younger investigators by playing soccer with
them in the parking lot before english class and stuff, and now we
have been doing tons with them! 4 of them came to church yesterday, so
that was super cool!! One of the kids is named Reima, and he is really
smart, and asks some really good questions, so it has been really fun
to talk with, and help him. I particularly love helping younger people
learn about the gospel. The work is moving forward. I love being a
missionary.
I had the idea recently that we become/want whatever we are focusing
on. If we focus on the wrong things then the wrong things will start
to be what we not only want, but what we will become. If we focus on
things that are good, then we will become them, and will want them.
Focus on succeeding, being obedient, being loving, being happy,
excited, and talented, and you will become such. Focus on how you are
tired, sad, lonely, discouraged, a failure, someone who can't do
anything, weak, unintelligent, and ugly, then you will unfortunately
start to become those things. I think you get the idea. But be careful
about what you focus on, because that will end up being what you'll
probably get! This can be very constructive and awesome, or it can
lead to our downfall and misery. Always make sure to put your focus in
wise things.
I love you all, thank you for your love and support. I know that God
lives. I know that Christ lives, and that he suffered and died for us.
I know that the Book of Mormon is true. In the name of Jesus Christ,
Amen.
Love,
